FBR denies duty-free import of armored vehicles – Pakistanwap

Islamabad:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Saturday denied reports that it had issued a notification allowing import of bulletproof vehicles without paying any tax or duty.

Taking to Twitter, he added that the federal cabinet had indeed taken such a decision in 2019, but the bureau had not yet informed him.

A day ago it was reported that the federal government has given conditional permission to military officers of the rank of lieutenant general and above to import bulletproof vehicles up to 6000 cc without paying tax and customs duty on retirement.

The notification issued by the FBR states that retired Lt. Generals, Army Chiefs, Chairpersons, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Committee Services Chiefs will be exempted from all taxes on import of bulletproof vehicles up to 6000 cc. Includes customs duty, sales tax, withholding tax and federal government. Excise duty.

Retired Army Chief, Chairperson Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Service Chiefs and all other four-star generals will be able to import two vehicles. However, retired lieutenant generals will be able to order a bulletproof vehicle.

Retired senior army officers will not be able to sell these vehicles for five years for prior approval of FBR.

If they sell these vehicles before the completion of the five-year period, they will have to pay all exempted taxes.

Retired military officials will need a recommendation from the Ministry of Defense to import these vehicles duty-free.

They also have to fulfill the conditions of the Airport Policy Order issued by the Ministry of Commerce.

According to FBR officials, military personnel have to apply for these vehicles one year before retirement as per the procedure.

The development comes at a time when the PTI is gearing up for its second long march to Islamabad to oust the current government.

Islamabad Police has asked IG Punjab Faisal Shahkar to provide more personnel to deal with the possible long march of PTI.

It is being said that Shahkar’s decision to give personnel to the Islamabad Police will determine the direction of their loyalty towards the federation or the Punjab government.

Sources say that Islamabad Police has called 10,000 police personnel from Punjab to maintain public order.

The Punjab Police currently has around 10,000 additional personnel.

Sources further said that there are more than 25 thousand constabulary personnel in Punjab Police. In addition, more than 15,000 police personnel are deployed across the province to accompany VVIPs and deal with emergencies.

The decision to send additional personnel or not will be taken by Shahkar after consultation with the provincial government.

The IGP of Punjab and Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar have been at loggerheads over the handling and registration of politically motivated cases.

Shahkar has reportedly resisted orders to register recent cases against PML-N leaders.

He also condemned the Punjab government’s directive to register cases against police personnel and officers for using force to stop the May 25 violence and earlier PTI’s long march.

On Tuesday, the Cabinet Secretariat’s Establishment Division issued orders to transfer Lahore’s CCPO from his post.

However, the Punjab government asked him to continue as CCPO till further orders.

The Muslim League-N-led coalition federal government was angry with Dogar over the recent registration of terrorism charges against party leaders Javed Latif and Maryam Aurangzeb.

The federal government was also disappointed with the raids on the houses of the leaders of the Muslim League (N) in connection with the riots in the Punjab Assembly during the election of the Chief Minister.

Shahkar has also had differences with the Punjab government over the posting of several senior police officers.
