To make commuters’ use of the motorways safer, the Motorway Police has implemented some new policies. The timing of this couldn’t have been better, as a terrible accident on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway in August 2022 claimed the lives of 20 motorists.

Motorway Police has implemented some new policies
- Proactive Rather Than Reactive
- Variable Message Sign (VMS)
- Driver’s License Point System
Proactive Rather Than Reactive

The Motorway Police are becoming more stricter, despite their reputation for being vigilant and enforcing the law regardless of the position of the driver.
Now, reckless drivers risk being pursued and penalised severely. And if they haven’t paid their challan, they won’t be allowed to go. The same holds true for other challaned violent offenders.
The Motorway Police will now actively use its spotters to seek for drivers who are driving too fast, too slowly, or both (underspeeding can also be fatal), as well as those who are texting and driving. The most recent HD cameras will be used by these spotters. They will photograph the driver and the number plate of the driver’s vehicle as proof.
The Motorway Police will use this to guarantee that National Highways regulations are followed.

- You’re in the wrong lane
- You’re overspeeding
- You need to pull over, etc.

Driver’s License Point System

As is the practice in many Western and other postmodern societies, if a driver gets caught violating a traffic rule, he/she gets a ticket which means deduction of a certain number of points from his/her license. Once the driver crosses a specific number of milesA driver who is ticketed for breaking a traffic law, as is common in many Western as well as other contemporary nations, will lose a set amount of points from their licence. The driver’s licence is either suspended or revoked whenever they reach a certain threshold in a calendar year. The national highways and the motorways here will follow the same rules. The Motorway Police hasn’t specified what that number is or how many points are associated with a specific infraction, though. in a year, his/her license is suspended or cancelled. The same will be applied here on the national highways and the motorways. However, the Motorway Police hasn’t revealed what that number is and the corresponding points for a particular violation.
These are indeed commendable steps and should go a long way in making the National Highways safer for every driver. However, it cannot be stressed enough that it is primarily the responsibility of every driver to obey all traffic rules while driving on the National Highways. This will ensure their safety, the safety of their passengers and others on the road.
