Beirut: Lebanon and Israel have reached a historic US-mediated agreement to end a long-running maritime border dispute in the Mediterranean Sea.

According to the World News Agency, the negotiators of Israel and Lebanon agreed on a historic agreement in the mediation of the United States, which has a strong possibility of ending the maritime boundary dispute between the two countries in the Mediterranean Sea.

The deal would resolve a border dispute at the eastern tip of the Mediterranean Sea, an area where Lebanon wants to explore for natural gas and where Israel has already found commercially viable quantities of hydrocarbons.

Israel and Lebanon have long been at loggerheads over ownership of the gas-rich region, but the two have now agreed on a middle ground, the details of which will be made public after approval by the heads of state.

Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab, who participated in the negotiations on behalf of Lebanon, told the media that the final draft of the agreement was presented to President Michel Aoun, who will formally approve it.

Ilyas Bu Saab said that the parties are in agreement in the agreement reached between the negotiation teams. All our demands have been accepted and hopefully Israel will think the same about this agreement.

Israeli National Security Adviser Eyal Halata, who headed the Israeli negotiating team, supported Bou Saab by saying that the changes we asked for were corrected.

The negotiators submitted the draft of the agreement to their respective presidents, after their approval, the date of signing the agreement will be announced and its contents will be made public.

It should be noted that there are trillions of cubic feet of gas in this area of the Mediterranean Sea and Lebanon hopes that the permission to explore for gas in this area will solve the problem of electricity for 20 years.
