Coalition demands action against Imran for ‘threatening’ judge

ISLAMABAD:

The constituent parties of the coalition government on Sunday slammed former prime minister Imran Khan’s statement in which he “threatened” Islamabad police officials and a woman judge.

While addressing a protest rally in Islamabad earlier today, Imran warned the IG and DIG of Islamabad police saying that he will not spare them and register a case against them for “torturing” party leader Shahbaz Gill during physical remand.

He also called out Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Zeba Chaudhry for approving police request of physical remand despite knowing that Gill was subjected to “torture”. “We will not leave you [Zeba] and will also file a case against her.”

In a joint statement, the ruling alliance mainly comprising PML-N, PPP, JUI-F, MQM-P and others “strongly condemned” the speech delivered by Imran Saturday night at F-9 Park in Islamabad.

The statement said Imran named the woman judge and also threatened her. He also attempted to intimidate Islamabad police by calling out their officials publicly, the statement added.

“These threats are blatant bullying and violation of law. ‘Traitor’ is the one who received foreign funding and plotted to incite mutiny in the army,” read the statement.

They also called upon supreme judiciary to take immediate notice of Imran Khan’s threat to the female judge and take legal action against Imran Khan and his colleagues for interfering in the affairs of the Interior Ministry and threatening the officers and government staff performing their duties according to the law.

“Imran Khan should be made to abide by the Constitution and law,” said the communiqué.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah also vowed to take legal action against Imran for “threatening” the woman judge and police officials.

In a statement, he said the former premier openly hurled threats during a live speech.

“Get ready to face the law. Imran Khan will be held accountable for interfering in the government affairs,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, PDM spokesperson Hafiz Hamdullah demanded the arrest of the former premier, saying there is no doubt left that Imran Khan plotted “mutiny in the military”.

“With the foreign funding of Israel and India, Imran Khan wants to start a civil war in Pakistan,” he added in a statement.
