Transport Council calls for action on seized trucks and containers

The Pakistan Transport Council (PTC) has expressed serious concern over the seizure of thousands of vehicles by the police in an attempt to block roads during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests.

“Containers carrying essential commodities such as life-saving medicines, fruits, vegetables, and electronic goods are being confiscated. Any consequential loss or theft of these goods will not be a problem,” PTC Chairman Tanveer Ahmad Jat said. The responsibility will fall on the shoulders of the government.

He demanded the Prime Minister to release the seized containers immediately and show mercy to the transporters and drivers. All entry and exit routes of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been sealed due to nationwide protests today on the orders of PTI leader Imran Khan.

Containers have been strategically placed on important roads including Faizabad flyover with heavy police presence in the area. Major roads like Murree Road, Motorway, Rawat, T Chowk, Taxila, Margalla and Mandira along with major highways like Murree Expressway, Hazara Expressway and roads connected to Punjab have been closed.

More than 6000 police personnel have been deployed across Rawalpindi to maintain law and order, security arrangements have been made in full force. Police carried out late-night raids to detain PTI workers, arresting more than 170 workers from different areas. Prisoner transport buses have been brought in to handle the increasing number of prisoners.
