KARACHI: To help ease the plight of farmers in the province following the devastating floods, the Sindh government on Friday said it has received $323 billion from the World Bank to provide subsidies for fertilizers and certified seeds. will

In this regard, Chief Minister Murad said that he has prepared a scheme of 30 billion rupees.

“We have to revive our flooded agriculture industry by giving some incentives,” he said, adding that farmers were not in a position to buy certified seeds, fertilizers and other commodities.

To support the project and help farmers reclaim their lands after the disaster ahead of the upcoming rabi crop season, the World Bank agreed to provide $323 billion to the provincial government.

The Sindh government and the World Bank will also collaborate to launch a Rs 110 billion housing project for the flood-affected population in the province.

Decisions were made after meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and World Bank Country Director Naji Benhasin who participated in the meeting via video link from Islamabad. A special unit under the Chief Secretary will be set up to initiate the project.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Murad said that he has already deployed teams to clean the water. Cities and villages were flooded..

He said that the process of extracting water is going on and it is hoped that the water will be extracted within one and a half months.

Chief Minister Murad further said that accommodation arrangements will be necessary before the arrival of winter season. People affected by floods And urged the World Bank to finance the housing project.

After thorough deliberations and deliberations, the Chief Minister and World Bank’s Benhasin decided to launch the project.

The Provincial Chief Secretary will be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the unit with the support of the public and private sectors after which the construction of the houses will begin. A survey to assess the needs of the housing project is currently underway.

Another project to repair Karachi’s damaged road network and drainage system will also be launched, for which Chief Minister Murad proposed to get an investment of 13 billion rupees. However, the World Bank has promised 6 billion rupees, while the remaining 7 billion rupees will be provided by the Sindh government from other sources.

To overhaul the sewage system, the Sindh government has also worked on a Rs 25 billion scheme, which the World Bank has agreed to finance through the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP) project.

In the meeting, Chief Minister Murad also discussed the reconstruction project of Jam Sadiq Bridge or Parallel Bridge. Both the World Bank and provincial government teams agreed to discuss the project at a meeting next week.
