The government will launch a solarization program targeting 500,000 households.

Provincial Minister for Energy, Planning and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has announced that the Sindh government is launching its solarisation programme, which aims to provide solar panels to 500,000 households.

According to an Urdu Point report on Tuesday, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah directed the Deputy Commissioners of Sukkur, Ghotki and Khairpur as well as the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) and NGO HANDS to lead the efforts. That the flood victims, being a vulnerable group, may not be in a position to file a complaint or file an FIR on their own.

The minister made these remarks during a meeting at the Commissioner’s Office, Sukkur, which focused on both People’s Housing and Solarisation programmes. He emphasized that reconstruction of houses for flood victims is the first priority of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. While other provinces also suffered heavy losses due to floods, according to the instructions of Chairman Bhutto Zardari, the reconstruction of houses has started only in Sindh.

He further said that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other members of the cabinet are trying to implement the vision of the chairman. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has emphasized the importance of providing ownership through the People’s Housing Programme.

Shah clarified that funding for the program was not an issue, citing delays caused by non-opening of bank accounts for flood victims. He assured that the Sindh government has already released its share of funds for the first year of the program and donor agencies have also contributed.

The provincial minister directed the deputy commissioners to ensure the provision of land ownership rights to women without delay and there should be no hindrance in this process. He also emphasized the need for coordination with elected representatives at the district, town and union council levels regarding the People’s Housing Programme.

Regarding the solarisation programme, Shah announced that it would start next month. He revealed that data of 200,000 households has already been collected through the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). Developed in collaboration with the World Bank, the solar panel initiative aims to benefit 10 districts of Sindh.
