The Election Commission’s decision to hold by-elections and municipal elections at the appointed time

Islamabad: The Election Commission has decided to hold the by-elections and local body elections across the country at their scheduled time.

According to Express News, the important meeting of Election Commission of Pakistan was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. In addition to the members of Election Commission, Secretary Election Commission, Secretary Ministry of Interior, Defense, Chief Secretary and IGs of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh participated in the meeting. Apart from this, representatives of MO Directorate and other security agencies and senior officers of Election Commission were also present in the meeting.

The Chief Election Commissioner emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct of by-elections and local body elections in Karachi Division. In briefing the meeting, the Secretary Election Commission said that the Election Commission has completed all the arrangements for the second phase of local elections in 9 districts of the National Assembly, three districts of the Provincial Assembly and all the districts of Karachi Division.

Secretary Election Commission told the meeting that the organization is ready to conduct the election, however, the position of the provincial governments, law enforcement agencies and other security agencies to perform their services in these elections is required so that the elections are peaceful. To ensure a peaceful environment for organizing and polling day.

In the meeting, the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Defense, Chief Secretaries, IGs and representatives of other security agencies presented their position in the meeting.

After listening to the position of all the officers and representatives, the Election Commission decided that except for the National Assembly seat of Karam district where the peace and order situation is not good, the elections will be held in all other National and Provincial Assembly constituencies with better administrative arrangements. It will be held on the fixed date i.e. 16 October 2022.

It was decided that the election of NA 45 District Karam will not be held on the fixed date i.e. 16th October 2022. Here the date of election will be announced later. Similarly, the second phase local body elections in all the districts of Karachi Division will also be held on October 23, 2022 as per the schedule.

It should be noted that the by-elections in 12 constituencies of the National and Provincial Assembly will be held on October 16.
