California: Messaging platform Signal is testing a new feature that closely resembles the Stories features of Instagram and other social media applications. Under the new feature, users will be able to share videos, photos and text messages that will disappear after 24 hours.
According to media reports, Signal said that the app’s new feature is ready for beta testing and the incoming content will be end-to-end encrypted. This feature will give users a new way to communicate without compromising their privacy.
The announcement was made by Signal in a post on the Signal forums, which clarified that those not interested in Stories can disable the feature entirely. Doing so will not only prevent them from posting their own stories, but also prevent them from showing other people’s stories.
Signal’s new Stories feature is currently only available to users of the beta version of the app and is expected to roll out to users in the coming weeks.
The increasingly popular Stories feature that is a staple of Facebook and Instagram was actually pioneered by the multimedia instant messaging app Snapchat.
