
Along with the resumption of passenger trains, Pakistan Railways has increased the passenger train fares, and an official notification has also been issued in this regard.
According to the notification, the economy class fare has been increased by 23% while the AC class fare has been increased by 19%.
In the notification, it has been stated that the fare of Pak Business, Karakoram and Karachi Express from Karachi to Lahore will be increased by 950 rupees to 3 thousand rupees.
The economy class fare of Peshawar-Karachi Rehman Baba and Khyber Mail has been increased by Rs 9500 to Rs 3000, while the AC standard fare of Karachi Express will be Rs 5000.
According to the notification, an AC standard ticket will be available for Rs 8,000 in Rehman Baba Express and Rs 7,000 for Khyber Mail.
Railway officials have maintained that the fare was not hiked when diesel was increased by Rs 59 per litre.
On the other hand, sources in the Ministry of Finance say that the IMF has banned additional grants from the approved budget.
Sources of the Ministry of Railways say that the Railways is facing a shortfall of 1 to 1.5 billion rupees for the payment of salaries.
