American rock musician Marilyn Manson has dropped a lawsuit against his ex-fiancée, bisexual actress Evan Rachel Wood, while agreeing to pay $327,000 in legal fees, according to media reports.
According to an Indian Express report, lawyers for both sides said on Tuesday that the rocker had agreed to drop the case. The move comes 18 months after a U.S. District Court judge dismissed much of a 2022 lawsuit, in which Manson claimed Wood had fabricated public allegations that he had an affair. He sexually and physically abused her.
Manson also alleged that Wood encouraged other women to make up allegations against him. “After four years of fighting a battle where he was able to tell the truth, Brian [Manson’s legal name] “Pleased to appeal the dismissal of my pending claims and to close this chapter in my life,” Manson’s attorney said in a statement related to the case.
On the other hand, Evan Rachel Wood’s lawyer, Michael J. Kump, said in a statement: “Manson used this as a publicity stunt to damage the reputations of many of his accusers and try to revive their damaged careers. filed a lawsuit against Ms. Wood, but his efforts to silence and intimidate Ms. Wood failed. Manson has agreed to pay approximately $327,000 in attorney’s fees to Ms. Wood.
Multiple media reports indicate that the settlement comes nearly four years into the multi-woman criminal investigation of Marilyn Manson, which remains unresolved. Outgoing L.A. County District Attorney George Gascon said in October that his office had discovered new evidence, though he did not specify when the next decision on the case might be made.
In a 2020 Instagram post, Evan Rachelwood said that Manson had horribly abused her over the years. Manson has denied engaging in any non-consensual sexual acts. In 2017, during the height of the #MeToo movement, Wood publicly said she had been raped and abused but did not name anyone at the time.
