Launch of e-taxi scheme for youth in Sindh

The Sindh government has unveiled a new e-taxi initiative aimed at creating employment opportunities for the youth of the province.
Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the program will enable young people to drive and operate electric taxis through a subsidized scheme. The cost of the vehicles will be shared between the government, banks and participants.
During the meeting in Karachi, Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon met representatives of Chinese automobile manufacturing company GAC and Dewan Motors. GAC General Manager Chu Song gave a detailed presentation on electric vehicles, reviewing various strategies for introducing electric taxis in Sindh.
Memon promised the Sindh government’s full cooperation to facilitate GAC investment. He assured support for infrastructure development, including setting up charging stations, simplifying regulatory processes, and promoting a business-friendly environment for investors.
He emphasized that this initiative will not only offer safe, modern transportation options but also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions. Moreover, it will create significant employment opportunities.
As part of the project, a pink taxi service will be launched, especially to ensure safe and reliable transportation to women passengers. Memon expressed the government’s commitment to speed up the rollout of these eco-friendly taxis, which will enable citizens to benefit from an innovative and sustainable travel solution.
