
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G service in the country on Saturday, calling it a ‘step towards a new era’ for India.
According to the news agency AFP, an official statement said that after the launch of this technology in certain cities, it will be spread throughout the country in the next two years.
Prime Minister Modi launched the service in the capital city of New Delhi with the aim of providing seamless internet coverage, high data rate, low latency in internet connectivity and highly reliable communication system on behalf of India’s telecom companies.
Modi said on the occasion: ‘This day of today will be written in history. This is a step towards a new era in the country and the beginning of unlimited opportunities.’

Following the inauguration, Bharti Airtel is rolling out its 5G service in eight major cities from Saturday and the company has set a deadline of March 2024 to complete nationwide coverage in 5,000 cities.
Another local telecom company ‘Jio Reliance’ plans to roll out in four metropolitan areas in October and hopes to reach most cities and towns in 18 months.
The total economic impact of 5G in India is expected to reach $450 billion by 2035, the government said.
Research agency OMDIA estimates that with around 370 million 5G subscribers, which is currently more than half of the total global 5G subscriptions, by 2026 India will be behind only China and the US in the technology.
According to the Business Standard newspaper, India will replace Japan with 14.7 million users in the third place.
