ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday acquitted Muslim League (N) vice president Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar in the Avenfield reference.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court heard his request.

In July 2018, an accountability court sentenced the PML-N leader to seven years in prison and her husband to one year for their involvement in the case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had accused him of implicating his father and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in this crime.

In the case, the supremo of Muslim League (N) was sentenced to 11 years while Captain (R) Safdar was sentenced to one year in prison for not cooperating with NAB and helping Nawaz and Maryam.

Maryam Nawaz had filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court challenging her sentence in the reference.
