Former cricketer and umpire Nazir Junior passes away
Pakistan’s former Test cricketer and respected umpire Muhammad Nazir Jr. passed away at the age of 78.
Junior’s son Nauman Nazir confirmed the news of losing the cricket legend. Nazir’s condition was critical for the past one week and was undergoing treatment in a private hospital before his death.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed grief over the death of Nazir Jr. Naqvi paid tribute to Nazir’s outstanding services for Pakistani cricket.
“May Allah rest the soul of Nazir eternally and shower His blessings on him”, said Naqvi. He also prayed for patience and perseverance for Nazir’s family in this difficult time.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister for Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan and many other influential personalities expressed their condolences on the demise of Nazir. All of them appreciated the late cricketer’s contribution to the game.
Nazir Jr Was a notable spin bowler. During his career, he appeared in 14 Test matches and four One-Day Internationals (ODIs), taking a total of 37 wickets.
One of his most notable achievements was becoming the first spinner to take seven wickets in the first innings of his Test debut.
After retiring from Pakistani cricket, Nazir turned to a career as an umpire. As an umpire, Nazir umpired in 15 ODIs and five Test matches.
Nazir always guided budding cricketers and served as their mentor.
