Azerbaijan is exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan’s M6 (Sukkur-Hyderabad) and M9 (Karachi-Hyderabad) motorways, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin said during a meeting on Thursday.
M9, a 136-km six-lane motorway, connects Karachi to Hyderabad, while the 306-km six-lane M6 will connect Sukkur to Hyderabad.
Ambassador Mohiuddin participated in the meeting chaired by Minister for Privatization and Investment Abdul Aleem Khan through video link. The ambassador said that Azerbaijan’s government institutions are willing to invest in Pakistan under the Government-to-Government (G2G) model and participate in the privatization of government institutions.
Minister Aleem Khan emphasized the importance of speedily addressing investment challenges with Central Asian Countries (CACs).
He said that the purpose of the meeting was to review the progress on these initiatives and directed the ambassador to complete the preparations before the two-day Pakistan-Azerbaijan Joint Commission meeting on December 24.
Highlighting the trade potential, he said that CACs could serve as a gateway for Pakistan to access Eastern European markets, which required strong efforts to strengthen ties. He also noted Pakistan’s prominent representation at COP29 held in Baku, Azerbaijan earlier this month.
