Mangaluru: A vegetarian crocodile living on the prasad of the Anantapadmanabha Swamy temple built right in the middle of a lake in the Indian state of Kerala was found dead.
According to Indian media, a crocodile, sacred to Hindus, was found dead in the Kasaragod lake of Ananthapura, Kerala. This crocodile had been living in the same temple lake for 75 years and instead of meat, it used to eat vegetables and fruits offered for prasad.
On this basis, pilgrims visiting the temple used to call this crocodile by the name of Babiya and offer Prasad twice a day. The story about this crocodile is also famous that in 1945, a crocodile was shot by the British army in this lake, after which the Babiya crocodile appeared.
Trustee of the temple, Uday Kumar R. Gatti, said that the health of the crocodile was not good for the past few days, which was also shown to the veterinary surgeons of Pelikula Biological Park in Mangaluru, but it did not recover and did not even come to eat Babiyaprasad for the last two days. We searched a lot but couldn’t find him anywhere and now his body has been found.
Crocodile Babiya will be buried in the temple grounds.
