Groningen: A study has shown that consuming a diet rich in healthy fats can help fight cancer.
A diet based on fruits, vegetables and whole grains along with olive oil, nuts and fish has many health benefits.
Researchers at the University Medical Center Groningen in the UK and the Netherlands examined the diets of 91 patients with skin cancer.
Research has shown that this diet makes the immune system more effective in patients against skin cancer.
Patients who ate the above-mentioned diet and used medications were more likely to survive and be progression-free 12 months after treatment. The progression-free period is the period during or after treatment in which the patient has disease but the disease does not worsen.
Study author and nutritionist Lara Bolt, from the University Medical Center Groningen, said the study underscores the role of diet in improving patient morbidity and survival.
In the research, it was found that not only the drug had a better effect on those who ate the above-mentioned diet, but after a year, there was no deterioration in their condition.
