The Prime Minister has given a cash reward of one lakh rupees. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officer Ijaz Hussain has been fined Rs 50 lakh for busting a massive sales tax fraud attempt.
During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence, Ijaz Hussain was praised for his diligence and integrity in preventing the loss of billions of rupees.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of recognizing and motivating honest officials and awarded them with honorary shields and monetary rewards.
“We must foster a culture where honest people are appreciated,” the Prime Minister remarked. “Tax evaders and their accomplices will face the harshest punishments to protect the country’s resources.”
An 80-year-old woman’s personal details were misused in the fraud. Officer Ijaz Hussain flagged the issue on 4 March 2024, preventing a significant financial loss. Although Rs 370 million have already been transferred, recovery efforts are on. The main suspect in the case has been arrested.
The Prime Minister directed the FBR to initiate a detailed investigation into the fraud, ensure accountability of the culprits and take action against any FBR official.
He further emphasized the need to assemble a strong legal team to handle the case effectively.
